Persistent gas emission originating from a deep basaltic magma reservoir of an active volcano: the case of Aso volcano, Japan

چکیده
Volcanic gas emission is considered to reflect the degassing of magma beneath volcanoes. The combined observations measurement and petrological study are expected constrain volatile concentrations storage depths pre-eruptive primitive magma. Aso volcano (Japan) a constantly-monitored, persistently-degassing volcano, an ideal site acquire petrologic data. We analyzed melt inclusions phenocryst minerals Holocene basaltic eruption products, reported their major element concentrations. samples showed abundant evidence mixing, such as reverse mineral zoning, highly variable glass compositions. SiO2 measured in varied from 46.0–65.8 wt. %. High-volatile concentration, S up 3750 ppm, was only found mafic hosted by high-Fo olivine phenocrysts (~ Fo82). were determined concentrations: 2 4 km depth for Strombolian sub-Plinian eruption, respectively. volatile-rich magma, one end member mixed-magma, originated deeper level (> 10 km) than these reservoirs. Initial using multiple constraints: > 4.68 % H2O, 400—750 ppm CO2, S, 716 Cl, 324 F. observed variation volcanic composition best explained mixing segregated at least km, with that shallow This illustrated method identify responsible deep flux mature complex magmatic processes.

Predictability of Volcano Eruption: lessons from a basaltic effusive volcano
Volcano eruption forecast remains a challenging and controversial problem despite the fact that data from volcano monitoring significantly increased in quantity and quality during the last decades. This study uses pattern recognition techniques to quantify the predictability of the 15 Piton de la Fournaise (PdlF) eruptions in the 1988-2001 period using increase of the daily seismicity rate as a...
متن کاملDeep magma transport at Kilauea volcano, Hawaii
The shallow part of Kilauea’s magma system is conceptually well-understood. Long-period and short-period (brittle-failure) earthquake swarms outline a near-vertical magma transport path beneath Kilauea’s summit to 20 km depth. A gravity high centered above the magma transport path demonstrates that Kilauea’s shallow magma system, established early in the volcano’s history, has remained fixed in...
متن کاملGeomechanical rock properties of a basaltic volcano
In volcanic regions, reliable estimates of mechanical properties for specific volcanic events such as cyclic inflation-deflation cycles by magmatic intrusions, thermal stressing, and high temperatures are crucial for building accurate models of volcanic phenomena. This study focuses on the challenge of characterizing volcanic materials for the numerical analyses of such events. To do this, we e...
متن کاملMagma degassing and basaltic eruption styles: a case study of V2000 year BP Xitle volcano in central Mexico
To investigate the relationship between volatile abundances and eruption style, we have analyzed major element and volatile (H2O, CO2, S) concentrations in olivine-hosted melt inclusions in tephra from the V2000 yr BP eruption of Xitle volcano in the central Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. The Xitle eruption was dominantly effusive, with fluid lava flows accounting for V95% of the total dense rock...
